VERMILLION, S.D. – Junior outside hitter Kendall Kritenbrink tallied 15 kills to lead four Coyotes to double-digit kill totals as South Dakota volleyball topped South Dakota State 25-17, 20-25, 25-13, 25-23 in front of a sellout crowd in the DakotaDome on Friday night. The Coyotes (17-8, 8-2) have won their last seven matches against the Jacks (3-19, 1-8) dating back to Nov. 2, 2010.
Kritenbrink recorded her 12th double-double of the season, adding 10 digs to her 16-kill night. Freshman Lindsey Brown tallied a career-high 14 kills, upping her previous high of four that she set earlier this season against Akron (Sept. 13). Sydney Dimke and Audrey Reeg had 10 kills to round out USD's double-digit kill efforts.
Outside of kills, Tori Kroll tallied 53 assists and tied Reeg for the most digs with 12, while Natalie Walseth and Kritenbrink tied for the most total blocks with four.
South Dakota State was led by Wagner Larson's 10 kills and Alanna Pengilly's 11 digs.
The Coyotes recorded 21 more kills than the Jacks (62-41) in the match, but were outkilled 15-14 in the second set. The Coyotes also held a 57-40 digs advantage in the match.
After losing the second set, USD never trailed in the third and battled through 20 ties and eight lead changes in the fourth set to take the win.
The win gives USD a 2-1 lead in the South Dakota Showdown Series. The Coyotes will host North Dakota State in the DakotaDome on Sunday for Senior Day at 2 p.m.
