OMAHA, Neb. – Marissa Janning scored 20 points and three more Bluejays scored at least 10 points as Creighton topped the South Dakota women's basketball team 63-48 in D.J. Sokol Arena on Tuesday night.
Janning was 6-for-13 with three 3-pointers and added seven rebounds to the Bluejay (4-2) effort. McKenzie Fujan also reached double figures with 13 points while Brianna Rollerson and Alyssa Kamphaus added 10 points each. Rollerson led Creighton in rebounds with eight and Sarah Nelson tallied four assists.
Nicole Seekamp was the lone South Dakota (2-5) player to score over 10 points, finishing the game 17. Raeshel Contreras and Polly Harrington both added seven points, while Seekamp and Tia Hemiller led in rebounds with eight.
The Bluejays shot 50 percent (15-for-30) in the first half and used an 18-5 run over the last 7 minutes, 34 seconds of the half to gain a 36-19 halftime lead. Creighton extended the lead to 24 with 16:09 left in the second half, but the Coyotes outscored Creighton 29-20 the rest of the way.
Creighton held advantages in points in the paint (38-26), second chance points (11-3) and points off turnovers (14-7). Both teams recorded 13 points from bench players.
South Dakota will host Wyoming on Saturday at 2 p.m. as part of a USD doubleheader.
