BOZEMAN, Mont. – South Dakota outside hitter Kendall Kritenbrink recorded her 1,000th kill of her collegiate career while tallying 21 kills to lead South Dakota volleyball to a 25-17, 27-25, 27-25 sweep of Akron at the Bobcat Classic on Friday.
Kritenbrink entered the match needing two kills to reach 1,000 for her career and recorded that kill in the first set to give USD a 5-2 lead. Overall she notched 25.5 points, seven total blocks and 11 digs in the match.
Audrey Reeg led the Coyotes (6-3) in digs with 17 while Tori Kroll had 37 assists. Kroll, who'll enter Saturday's matches with 3,709 career assists, needs 56 assists to become USD's all-time assist leader. She'll pass Lisa Roberts (1996-99) at 3,764.
South Dakota finished the sets with runs of 9-1, 7-3 and 6-1. USD never trailed in the first set and forced the Zips into a negative hitting percentage (-.025) in the third set with 11 attack errors and 10 kills. USD also won the kills battle 43-36 and forced 23 Akron attack errors.
South Dakota will face Gonzaga at 1 p.m. and Montana State at 8 p.m. on Saturday.
