Kroll sets all-time assist record, USD wins Bobcat Classic

BOZEMAN, Mont. – Tori Kroll became USD's all-time assist leader and Kendall Kritenbrink was named tournament MVP as South Dakota volleyball won the Bobcat Classic by sweeping Gonzaga 25-22, 25-20, 25-20 and Montana 25-21, 25-17, 25-20 on Saturday. The Coyotes (8-3) had sweeps in all three matches of the tournament and have won six of their last seven contests.

Kroll recorded 37 assists against Gonzaga and 26 against Montana State to finish the day with 3,772 career assists. She passed Lisa Roberts (1996-99) at 3,764 assists in the third set against Montana State on a kill by Kelsey Biltoft to make it 9-9.

Kritenbrink finished the tournament with 44 kills and 13 total blocks. She recorded 16 kills against Gonzaga, seven kills against Montana State and averaged 4.89 kills per set for the tournament. Kroll also made the all-tournament team by finishing the tournament with 100 assists and 17 digs.

After edging Gonzaga in a tight first set (15 ties, four lead changes), South Dakota never trailed again in the match. The Coyotes out killed the Bulldogs 47-35 and won every stat category in the box score minus attack errors (USD-17, Gonzaga-13).

Outside of Kritenbrink's 16 kills, Sydney Dimke and Melissa Firtko both had nine kills against Gonzaga. Audrey Reeg led USD in digs with 10.

Against Montana State, the Coyotes received more points on Bobcat errors (39 in total) than kills (32). USD forced 25 attack errors from MSU while only committing 10, and had a 13-0 advantage in blocks with Firtko tallying seven total blocks.

Kritenbrink and Dimke led the Coyotes in kills in the match with seven, while Kroll and Reeg both led in digs with 11.

South Dakota will have a quick turnaround as they face North Dakota in the DakotaDome on Monday at 7 p.m.
