VERMILLION, S.D. – Melissa Firtko recorded 12 blocks while Kendall Kritenbrink and Sydney Dimke recorded double-digit kills to lead South Dakota volleyball past North Dakota 21-25, 25-19, 25-19, 25-21 at the DakotaDome on Monday night. The Coyotes (9-3) have now won seven of their last eight contests.
It was a career high blocking night for Firtko, who helped South Dakota to a 15-11.5 block advantage in the match. Kendall Kritenbrink recorded 18 kills while Sydney Dimke and Kelsey Biltoft also added 11 and nine kills respectively. Audrey Reeg led USD in digs with 17 and Tori Kroll had 40 assists.
The Coyotes weathered 17 North Dakota kills in the first set to take control of the net in sets two and three with five and six blocks respectively. The Coyotes also forced 24 attack errors while giving up 30 kills over the final three sets.
South Dakota will travel to Wichita, Kan., for the Wichita State Shocker Classic starting on Thursday. They'll start the tournament with No. 7 Hawai'i at 7:30 p.m.
