TULSA, Okla. – Laura Milos recorded 28 kills and Sara Pope added 22 kills on 33 attacks as Oral Roberts topped South Dakota volleyball 22-25, 25-15, 26-28, 25-22, 15-12 in the Aerobics Center on Friday night.
Pope recorded an attack percentage of .606, finishing with just two attack errors in the match. As a team, the Golden Eagles (11-11, 5-4) recorded a .331 hitting percentage, including a .421 mark with nine kills on 19 attacks in the final set. South Dakota (13-9, 7-2) was held to a .199 clip in the match.
ORU had five players record at least 10 digs, with Milos and Nika Mostahinic leading the way with 17 each. Lucija Bojanjac tallied 61 assists and Jovana Poljasevic tallied seven blocks.
South Dakota was led by a pair of players that finished with double-doubles. Audrey Reeg had 17 kills and 12 digs while Kendall Kritenbrink added 15 kills and 10 digs. Brittany Jessen added 38 assists, Riley Haug had 13 digs and Kelsey Biltoft recorded six blocks.
Oral Roberts was out-killed by USD in the first set 18-13, but by the end of the match held a 70-59 edge in that stat. The Golden Eagles had two sets where they recorded attack percentages over .400, with a .407 mark in the second set, as well as the .421 mark in the fifth.
In the opening set, USD was led by Reeg's seven kills and Kritenbrink's five kills. The Coyotes ended the set on an 8-2 run to turn a 20-17 deficit into a 25-22 set win. Three points during that stretch came off ORU errors and a pair of points came off kills from Kritenbrink.
Oral Roberts took control of the second set with 14 kills on 27 attacks, while USD tallied eight kills and eight attack errors. Milos led the Golden Eagles in the set with five kills on nine attacks while Mostahinic added nine digs. Oral Roberts had runs of 7-0 and 5-0 during that set.
A pair of Oral Roberts attack errors ended up being the difference in set three. Both teams finished with 17 kills, but USD had four attack errors to ORU's six. Reeg's seven kills led USD in the set, while Milos tallied seven kills and Pope added six kills for ORU.
USD scored the first six points of set four, but the Golden Eagles ended up with a 17-10 kills advantage in the frame. Milos and Pope matched their kills totals from the previous set with seven and six respectively.
Pope led ORU in the fifth with five kills while Milos tallied four more. ORU never trailed after a 3-3 tie and had nine kills and one error in the set. Over the final two sets, ORU had a combined attack percentage of .345 while the Coyotes had a .131 mark.
South Dakota will return to The Den to host Omaha (9-13, 4-5) on Sunday at 2 p.m.
