Box Score Dec. 21, 2014

Box Score

MISSOULA, Mont.—Tyler Larson scored six of his team-high 15 points in the final two minutes in leading South Dakota to a 67-62 win against Montana Sunday at Dahlberg Arena. It was the first meeting between the programs in 43 years. South Dakota swept Montana State and Montana in a four-day span to improve to 5-8.

The Coyotes rallied from a 10-point deficit with 11 minutes remaining to earn their third true road win of the season. South Dakota trailed 62-59 with four minutes left, but outscored the Griz 8-0 from that point forward.

Larson tied the game at 62-62 with a jumper in the lane with two minutes left. He hit a pair of free throws on the next trip to give USD a 64-62 lead with 1:22 left and made a fallback jumper with 42 seconds to go that made it 66-62.

South Dakota switched to a zone defense down the stretch and Montana missed eight consecutive three-point attempts after taking a three-point lead on a jumper by Fabijan Krslovic with 4:10 left. The Griz didn't get an offensive board during that four-minute stretch until their final possession.

Montana (3-7) was 2 of 14 from beyond the arc in the second half and 7 of 27 from downtown for the game. Jordan Gregory led all scorers with 18 points, but was 3 of 10 from three-point range and 6 of 17 from the floor. Chris Kemp had 12 points and six rebounds for the Griz.

Larson had 10 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the season. Brandon Bos had 11 points. Trey Norris scored seven of his 10 points in the second half. South Dakota shot 42 percent from the floor (24 of 57) and 6 of 19 from beyond the arc.

South Dakota returns to the court Dec. 28 at home against Milwaukee. The Coyotes open Summit League play at home Jan. 2 against Omaha.
