SAN ANTONIO - Chelsey Shumpert scored 21 points as Chattanooga snapped the South Dakota women's basketball team's eight-game win streak with a 67-54 win at the UTSA Holiday Classic held at the Convocation Center in San Antonio on Monday afternoon.

South Dakota (10-3) didn't make a 3-pointer (0-for-6) and committed 24 turnovers while recording its lowest point total so far this season. Margaret McCloud led the Coyotes in scoring with 13 points while Lisa Loeffler, who played her 100th game as a Coyote, tallied eight points and eight rebounds. Raeshel Contreras and Bridget Arens both chipped in eight points.

The Coyotes outrebounded the Mocs (11-3) 33-27 and held a 36-24 advantage in points in the paint, but couldn't overcome eight 3-pointers by Chattanooga. The Mocs shot 46 percent (23-of-50) from the floor and were 8-of-20 from 3-point range (40 percent), while USD finished with a shooting percentage of 41.7 percent (20-of-48).

Outside of Shumpert, Keiana Gilbert recorded 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting while Jasmine Joyner tallied 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting. On defense, Joyner tallied six of Chattanooga's nine blocks while Gilbert had four of the team's 11 steals.

The Mocs entered the game ranked fourth in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Poll. So far this season, they have topped two teams currently ranked in the top 15 in the AP Poll (No. 8 Tennessee and No. 15 Stanford).

The Coyotes scored the first four points of the game, but the Mocs scored 22 of the next 29 and never gave up the lead from then on. South Dakota trailed 27-14 with 7:20 left in the first half before a 12-0 run to cut the lead to 27-26 with 1:35 remaining. Shumpert quadrupled the Mocs' lead by hitting a 3-pointer with 50 seconds remaining to give Chattanooga a 30-26 lead at the break.

The Mocs started the second half with a 20-6 run to open up an 18-point lead (50-32) with 13:12 remaining. The Coyotes scored on three of their 15 possessions and committed six turnovers during that stretch. USD never closed the gap to less than seven points the rest of the way.

The game ended South Dakota's non-conference schedule. The Coyotes will begin Summit League play on Friday with a game at Omaha starting at 7 p.m.
