GREEN BAY, Wis. – Madi Kingdon recorded 23 kills for the Wildcats as Arizona topped South Dakota volleyball 25-20, 20-25, 25-20, 25-19 in the Green Bay Country Inn & Suites Tournament opener at the Kress Center on Friday. It was the season opener for both teams.

Kingdon was the lone Wildcat with double-digit kills and added 10 digs to the defensive effort. She finished the match with a .392 attack percentage, committing three attack errors on 51 attacks. Rachel Rhoads added nine kills on 17 attacks and three service aces, Ashley Harris tallied nine kills and Penina Snuka tallied 40 assists and 18 digs.

Sophomore Audrey Reeg led USD's attack with 15 kills while senior Kendall Kritenbrink added 13 kills. Kritenbrink (1,439 career kills) now needs 12 kills to pass Becky Olson (2000-2003) for first on USD's all-time career kills list at 1,450.

Freshman setter Brittany Jessen tallied 40 assists in her Coyote debut while senior Riley Haug led USD defensively with 19 digs.

Both teams started fast offensively with Arizona recording 17 kills and South Dakota tallying 15 kills in the first set. Arizona committed only one attack error in the set while the teams combined for just 13 digs. In set two, the Coyotes tallied 13 kills and forced seven Wildcat attack errors to tie the match 1-1 heading into the break.

Arizona had a 15-12 kills advantage in the third set and used four blocks and eight USD attack errors to win set four. However, USD finished the fourth set with a 13-12 advantage in kills.

South Dakota will play two matches on Saturday starting with Kansas State at 10 a.m. They'll end the weekend by playing tournament host Green Bay at 7 p.m.
