VERMILLION, S.D.—South Dakota sophomore forward Corey Strang and senior defender Lauren Bennett have been named the Summit League's Women's Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, for the period ended Sept. 28.
Strang earns her first career Offensive Player of the Week honor after scoring the game-winning goal in South Dakota's 1-0 win against Drake on Wednesday. She received a pass from teammate Elena Tsakakis, beat the goalie 1-on-1 and sent the ball to the corner of the net for her third goal of the season.
On the defensive end of the field, Bennett collects her first career Defensive Player of the Week honor after holding the Bulldogs to a 1-0 shutout at Drake's Cownie Stadium. Bennett played the entire match, leading a South Dakota backline that limited Drake to only two shots on goal.
The Coyotes improved to 7-4 in non-league play, its best since joining The Summit League in 2011. South Dakota begins Summit League play at home on Friday as they take on the Omaha Mavericks at 4 p.m.
