DEKALB, Ill.—Northern Illinois senior guard Chuks Iroegbu scored a career-high 16 points and had a game-high eight rebounds to lead the Huskies to a 72-65 win against South Dakota on the second day of the Northern Illinois Showcase in The Convocation Center.
Northern Illinois improved to 2-0 while South Dakota fell to 0-2. The Coyotes wrap up the tournament with a 1 p.m. contest with CSUN Sunday.
Iroegbu made a free throw and scored twice in the paint to break a 64-64 tie with 4:02 remaining. The Huskies' defense didn't allow a field goal and forced three turnovers in the game's final four minutes. The Coyotes managed a

South Dakota's
Tre Burnette led all scorers with 19 points and had seven rebounds. He made 8 of 15 shots including 3 of 4 from beyond the arc. The Coyotes made 10 of 19 from long distance.
Casey Kasperbauer made four 3's for the second straight day and finished with 16 points for South Dakota.
In addition to Iroegbu's 16, the Huskies got 12 points and eight rebounds from Marin Maric, and 11 points and seven assists from Travon Baker. True freshman Marshawn Wilson came off the bench to add 12 points.
Northern Illinois outrebounded South Dakota 22-8 in the second half to help erase a 34-28 halftime deficit. The Huskies used their edge to score 10 second-chance points in the half. Both teams shot 45 percent from the field.
The teams exchanged 10-point rallies in the second half. McClelland converted a 3-point play and hit a triple to give South Dakota a 48-38 lead with 13:30 remaining. Maric and Laytwan Porter combined for 10 straight points for Northern Illinois to tie the game at 48-48 less than three minutes later. Porter had nine points.

Eric Robertson followed with a 3-point play to push the Coyotes in front 57-50 with 8:10 remaining. South Dakota attempted four shots the rest of the game, committed five turnovers and missed the front end of two 1-and-1s.
Trey Norris had five points, six assists and two steals for South Dakota. Freshman
Dan Jech scored seven points for the second game in a row. The two combined for all 12 of the Coyotes' points off the bench.
