GRAND FORKS, N.D.—North Dakota's Veronica Kessler came off the bench to score two goals, while teammates Riley Koberinkski and Zoe Foster added one each in UND's 4-0 win over South Dakota at Bronson Field on Sunday.
North Dakota (2-1-0) scored its first goal in the 40th minute following two back-to-back saves by the South Dakota (0-4-0) defense. Kessler picked up the rebound off the second blocked shot and sent it up past the defense and out of freshman Coyote goalkeeper
Parker Rytz's reach.
UND added three more goals in a six minute span late in the second half. Koberinski took a shot in the 73rd minute from the top left of the box to beat Rytz to the far side of the net. Then off a corner kick by UND's Kennedy Kidd the 75th minute, Kessler finished her second goal of the game.
In the first play following a South Dakota goalkeeper substitution, a foul was called in the box which forced sophomore
Sydney Hardin to face a penalty kick in the 77th minute. Hardin jumped to the left side of the goal as UND's Foster sent the ball to the right side of the net for North Dakota's final goal of the match.
South Dakota had 16 attacking opportunities, led by senior
Taylor Nivala's four shots. North Dakota's Olivia Swenson grabbed nine saves to keep the Coyotes off the board.
North Dakota put four goals in off 24 attempts. Rytz made 10 saves for the Coyotes.
With today's win, North Dakota moves into the lead in the all-time series between the two programs, 11-10-5.
The Coyotes face off against Chicago State at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Chicago, Ill.
