CHICAGO—South Dakota sophomore goalkeeper
Sydney Hardin recorded her first career shutout in the Coyotes' 4-0 win over Chicago State at Kroc Stadium on Friday.
South Dakota (1-4-0) had four different players each score a goal in the win. The first goal was scored by sophomore
Courtney Baker in the 23rd minute. Baker redirected the ball into the net after Chicago State (0-4-0) goalkeeper Audra Wisehart deflected senior
Elena Tsakakis' shot on goal.
Then facing a one-on-one situation in the 27th minute, sophomore
Katelyn Floysand made a move around the defense to score from 22 yards out.
After a foul by Chicago State in its own goal box in the 76th minute, senior
Teagan Eberle stepped up to take the penalty kick for the Coyotes. Eberle increased the Coyotes' lead to three.
Less than a minute after Eberle scored on the penalty, sophomore
Brittney Baker threaded a through ball into the middle of the field. Senior
Rebecca Sparkman connected for her second goal of the season and solidified the final score at 4-0.
Hardin recorded four saves during the second half to keep the Cougars off the board. While the Coyotes outshot the Cougars 21-9 and led in corner kicks 5-2, eight of Chicago State's shots and both corners came in the second half.
South Dakota returns home to the USD Soccer Complex in Vermillion, S.D., Sunday at noon to take on Green Bay.
