EDINBURG, Texas—South Dakota senior defender Kasha Meyer earned a spot on the UTRGV Invitational all-tournament team Sunday. Southern Utah put three goals into the back of the net to defeat the Coyotes 3-1 on Sunday at UTRGV Soccer Complex in Edinburg, Texas.
 
South Dakota fell to 2-6 with the loss, while the Thunderbirds improved to 5-3.
 
Southern Utah's Ally Thimsen opened the match with a no-look shot that flew past Coyote sophomore goalkeeper Sydney Hardin and into the far corner of the net in the fourth minute of the game.
 
South Dakota evened up the score in the 12th minute. Senior Elena Tsakakis fed a through ball to senior Brenna Bills. Bills dribbled past the goalie and placed the ball into a wide open net.
 
The Thunderbirds responded in the 28th minute when Shelby Green put one away from Payton Bonino.
 
Thimsen snagged a second goal in the 54th minute as her shot from the right side of the box flew into the goal.
 
Southern Utah outshot South Dakota 19-8 and led on corner kicks 6-2. Bills and senior Taylor Nivala had two shots apiece to lead the Coyotes on the attack.
 
South Dakota travels to Moscow, Idaho, to play the Vandals at 6 p.m. Friday.
