ELMHURST, Ill.—South Dakota women's basketball senior guard Nicole Seekamp has been named the Summit League December Athlete of the Month, as released by the league office Friday.
 
Seekamp earns the first Athlete of the Month honor in her career. She becomes the first Coyote to collect the honor in the 2015-16 school year.
 
A native of Renmark, South Australia, Seekamp was twice named the Summit League Women's Basketball Player of the Week in December after helping South Dakota to a 6-1 December record. She averaged 16 points, 5.9 assists, 4.4 steals, and 3.4 rebounds for the month.
 
The senior started off with a 24-point, five rebound, five assist, and three steal performance over previously undefeated Drake on Dec. 3, which was ranked No. 8 on the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Poll. Seekamp scored 21 points with six assists, five rebounds, and three steals on the road at Illinois on Dec. 22. She added a double-double with 15 points and 11 assists in the Dec. 8 win at San Jose State.
 
She shot 43.6 percent (41-of-94) from the field and 91.3 percent (21-of-23) at the line. At the end of the month, Seekamp was one of only two players in the NCAA averaging over 14 points, 6.7 assists, and 3.5 steals per contest.
 
Seekamp and South Dakota (10-5, 1-1 Summit) host Omaha (9-6, 2-1 Summit) tomorrow at 1:30 p.m.
