BROOKINGS, S.D.—Mike Daum scored a game-high 24 points and George Marshall added 22 more as South Dakota State ran its home winning streak to 27 games with an 85-68 win against South Dakota Saturday at Frost Arena.
In addition to owning the nation's fourth-longest home winning streak, the Jacks (20-6, 9-3 Summit) have won nine straight at home against the Coyotes dating back to 2000. South Dakota (12-15, 4-9) got a season-high tying 19 points from point guard
Trey Norris, but had a two-game win streak come to an end.
South Dakota State trailed 22-14 eight minutes into the game, but closed the first half on a 30-6 run and never looked back. Daum and Marshall combined for 31 first-half points on 11 of 16 shooting. Daum was 6 of 9 from the field in the opening stanza and 5 of 5 from the free-throw line. Marshall made the first four 3-pointers he took.
Deondre Parks scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half to help the Jacks maintain their lead. Norris had 14 points in the final half for the Coyotes on two field goals and nine free throws. There were 30 whistles and 42 free throws attempted in the second half.
SDSU made 28 of 31 free throws during the game while South Dakota made 18 of 20. Daum finished 9 of 9 from the stripe and 7 of 11 from the field. He also led the Jacks with six boards. Keaton Moffitt scored 11 points off the bench for SDSU.
Norris led four Coyotes in double figures.
Casey Kasperbauer made three triples and scored 12 points.
Eric Robertson had 11 points and six rebounds.
Dan Jech came off USD's bench to score 10 points.
Kasperbauer, the nation's leading free-throw shooter entering Saturday at 96.8 percent, made 1 of 2 from the line, ending a streak of 50 consecutive made free throws dating back to late November. Kasperbauer had missed 14 free throws in 118 collegiate games.
South Dakota plays its final two home games next week starting with York College Wednesday and ending with Denver Saturday.
