DAVIS, Calif.—South Dakota fell 2-1 to Idaho State and lost to UC Davis 11-10 in eight innings on day two of the Aggie Invitational hosted by UC Davis Saturday at La Rue Field. The Coyotes (1-13) will get a rematch with UC Davis at 1:15 p.m. (CST) Sunday before returning to campus.
A solo home run by Idaho State first baseman Abby Hickman in the fifth inning was the difference in game one. The Coyotes had tied the game on a bases loaded walk drawn by
Christy Warnock in the prior at bat. Sophie Slagle (1-3) allowed three hits and struck out four for the Bengals (4-10) to pick up her first win of the season.
UC Davis (6-6) trailed 7-3 after five innings and 10-8 with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Taylor Peters hit a walk-off, three-run double to complete the comeback for the Aggies. Peters had three hits in the game.
South Dakota had a 6-0 lead after six at bats in the top of the first inning.
Brooke Curtis had a two-run double,
Taylor Steinfeldt had an RBI double and
Shelby Keil hit a two-run homer before the Aggies could record an out.
UC Davis scored five runs on just three hits in the sixth to take an 8-7 lead. A bases-loaded walk by pinch-hitter Katie Robertson tied the game and the next batter, Alexis Carney, was hit by a pitch. South Dakota issued five free passes in the frame.
Curtis had a career-high four hits for the Coyotes. She hit a solo home run in the second inning to put the 'Yotes ahead 7-1 and had a two-run double in the eighth inning to give USD a 10-8 lead. Leadoff hitter
Yvon Minogue also had four hits against the Aggies and scored two runs. South Dakota outhit UC Davis 15-11.
