Klyse earns win No. 200

CLEARWATER, Fla.—University of South Dakota head softball coach Amy Klyse earned her 200th coaching win with the program in a 4-3, nine-inning victory against Army Saturday during day two of the Under Armour Showcase hosted by University of South Florida. Klyse is in her ninth season with the Coyotes.
 
South Dakota (4-22) scored two runs in the ninth and walked off following a sacrifice fly by Yvon Minogue that scored Christy Warnock from third base for the winning run. Minogue was 2-for-3 against Army and moved into fourth place on the program's career hit list with 228.
 
Both teams scored twice in the fourth inning. Army (9-9) got an RBI single by center fielder Ashley Yoo and a sacrifice fly from first baseman Nena Riccoboni. The Coyotes tied the game in the bottom half on a two-run single by designated player Olivia Huffman.
 
Madison Frain pitched all nine innings for USD to improve to 3-8. She allowed 11 hits and struck out six. Caroline Smith pitched the first eight innings for the Black Knights before giving way to Renee Poirier in the ninth.
 
USF 7, South Dakota 0
The Coyotes dropped a 7-0 decision to USF in game two Saturday. Susan Wysocki (4-3) pitched a two-hitter and struck out six to earn the win in the circle for the Bulls (17-9). She allowed a double to Minogue in the first and a double to Coyote shortstop Shelby Keil in the seventh. Wysocki retired the side in the second, fourth and sixth innings.
 
USF scored three runs in the first and four more in the second. Monica Santos' three-run homer, her third of the season, came in the opening frame. Mia Fung added a two-run shot in the second. Santos had two of the Bulls' six hits.
 
South Dakota takes on Bowling Green at 8 a.m. (CDT) Sunday before returning to Vermillion.
