FORT WAYNE, Ind.—South Dakota freshman second baseman
Jamie Holscher hit a three-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to give the Coyotes the lead in a game they went on to win 10-6 Saturday at IPFW Softball Field in the rubber match of a three-game series.
It was the first collegiate homer for Holscher, who was 3-for-4 in the game with two runs scored. Her shot to right center field erased a two-run deficit.
Sydney Hancock drew a bases loaded walk later in the inning and
Shelby Keil added a two-run single to make it a six-run frame for the Coyotes (6-24, 2-1 Summit).
Caitlyn DeLong homered for the second straight game for Fort Wayne (10-22, 1-2). Her two-run shot put the Mastodons ahead 2-1 in the second inning. Emily Olszewski broke a 4-4 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning for Fort Wayne with a two-run double. She singled and scored back in the fifth inning and finished 2-for-3.
Megan Green (1-1) relieved South Dakota starter
Madison Frain with two runners in scoring position and one out after Olszewski's double in the sixth. Green induced a line out to Keil at short and fielded a comebacker from Demitra Burns to get out of the jam. She pitched a 1-2-3 seventh inning to earn her first victory of the season.
South Dakota designated player Brook Curtis hit a solo home run in the third inning that knotted the game at 2-2. It was her third home run of the season. First baseman
Yvon Minogue was 3-for-4 including her ninth double of the season. She led off the game with a single and scored on a base hit by
Jessica Rogers to give USD an early lead.
The Coyotes next face Wisconsin in a Wednesday doubleheader in Madison that starts at 2 p.m.
