MADISON, Wis.—South Dakota led 4-0 and 7-4 before holding off Wisconsin for a 7-6 victory in game one of a doubleheader played at Goodman Stadium Wednesday. The Badgers took the nightcap 10-2.
It was the Coyotes' first win in the third-ever meeting between the two programs. South Dakota first baseman
Yvon Minogue hit her fourth home run as part of a 3-for-4 effort. Center fielder
Christy Warnock added two hits and three RBIs. The Coyotes out-hit the Badgers 11-8 in the opener.
South Dakota starter
Madison Frain (5-9) pitched five innings to pick up the win. She took a two-hit shutout into the fifth inning before running into trouble. Samantha Arents capped a four-run inning for the Badgers with a two-run double that knotted the game at 4-4.
Minogue and
Taylor Steinfeldt led off the Coyote fifth with back-to-back singles. Minogue scored the go-ahead run on a two-out base hit by
Jessica Rogers and shortstop
Shelby Keil plated two more with a two-run double for a three-run lead.
Megan Green relieved Frain after a solo home run by Katie Christner led off the bottom of the sixth. Green allowed one hit in getting the last six outs to earn her second collegiate save.
Minogue singled and scored in the top of the first inning of game two to give the Coyotes an early lead. Minogue was 4-for-7 during the twin bill to up her average to .402.
Wisconsin (17-13) scored six runs – four earned – in the third inning to take a 7-1 lead. Six of the Badgers' eight hits came during the frame. Wisconsin drew six walks in the fifth, the last of which scored the winning run.

Sydney Hancock each had three hits with a double on the day. Minogue's homer was the 21
st of her collegiate career. She also scored her 118
th run, which moved her into sixth place on the Coyotes' all-time list.
South Dakota will play in its home opener Saturday against Western Illinois to kick off a three-game Summit League series.
