OMAHA, Neb.—Sydney Hames was 3-for-4 with an RBI and Kourtney Pock homered for the second time in as many days in leading Omaha to a 6-4 win against South Dakota Sunday at Westside Field at Westbrook. The Mavericks (28-22, 12-2 Summit) won all three games of the weekend series.
Katie Cochran hit a three-run home run for the Coyotes (13-32, 7-5) and South Dakota had the tying run at first base in the top of the seventh inning, but Laura Roecker got
Yvon Minogue to line out to short to end the game. Roecker (15-10), who pitched two complete games in the series, struck out eight Sunday.
Minogue had two of South Dakota's seven hits and tied Melissa Chmielewski (NDSU) for second place on the Summit League's all-time hits list with 258. Only Ericka Burns (265) has more. Minogue was 7-for-10 in the series. She's hit safely in eight straight and reached base in 16 straight. She leads the Summit with a .432 average.
Poch was 3-for-5 with two home runs, five RBIs and five runs scored in the series. She also drew five walks. Her eighth home run of the season, a solo shot in the third, put the Mavs ahead 1-0.
It was 4-0 in the top of the sixth when Cochran hit the 16
th home run of her career to close the gap to 4-3. Omaha shortstop Nicole Warren laced an RBI double in the bottom half of the inning to make it 5-3 and Hames followed with an RBI single to push the lead back to three.
South Dakota designated player
Taylor Steinfeldt got a one-out single in the top of the seventh and came around to score on
Jamie Holscher's infield single. That put runners on first and third with two outs ahead of Minogue.
South Dakota returns home and will host North Dakota State for a three-game set next Saturday and Sunday at Nygaard Field.
