VERMILLION, S.D.—South Dakota juniors Hayley Dotseth and Taylor Wilson posted 17 and 11 kills, respectively, to lead the Coyotes to a sweep of the Fort Wayne Mastodons with scores of 25-19, 25-14 and 25-14.

Who Stood Out
Dotseth hammered down 17 kills and added 14 digs to earn her 11th double-double of the season. Wilson recorded a season-high 11 kills on 13 attempts for an impressive .769 hitting percentage in the match. Alongside Dotseth and Wilson, sophomore Elizabeth Loschen and senior Brittany Jessen recorded seven kills apiece. Jessen also recorded 37 assists with 14 digs for her ninth double-double of the season. For the Coyote defense, sophomore Mehana Fonseca led the pack with 15 digs.

For the Mastodons, freshman Katie Crowe led with eight kills while junior Nicole Rightnowar added seven and freshman Sydney Boerst contributed six more. On the defensive end, freshman Julia Wayer recorded 15 digs with both Rightnowar and junior Madison Jaqua adding 10 more.

Turning Point
The Coyotes took the first two sets and came out motivated in the third. South Dakota put the score 9-3 forcing Fort Wayne into a timeout. The Mastodons would come within three (11-9), but the Coyotes were too much to handle to close the gap. South Dakota would go on a 14-5 run to seal the deal with Wilson serving seven of the 14 points.

Notable
  • Jessen's 37 assists tonight moves her to 57 assists away from taking the all-time career assists record for the USD volleyball program.
  • Fonseca's 15 digs earned her a season-high.
  • South Dakota's .377 hitting percentage tonight was the team's third-best attack percentage this season.
  • The Coyotes have swept four of their last five games in Summit League play.
