Coyotes end Oral Roberts' four-game win streak

VERMILLION, S.D.—Four Coyotes led a steady South Dakota offense past Oral Roberts in a 3-1 victory on Tuesday at the Sanford Coyote Sports Center with scores of 25-13, 21-25, 25-18, 25-19. The win ended Oral Roberts' four-game win streak at the start of league play.
 
Who Stood Out
Junior Hayley Dotseth recorded her seventh double-double of the season with a match-high 23 kills and 12 digs. Her 23 kills were also a new career high. Junior Kristina Susak came out firing with a new career high of 14 kills. Sophomore Elizabeth Loschen contributed 10 kills alongside senior Meagan Kerns who added 10 kills off 14 attempts. Senior Brittany Jessen ended the night with a season-high 58 assists.
 
The defensive efforts for South Dakota were led by sophomore Anne Rasmussen, the reigning Summit League Defensive Player of the Week, with 17 digs.
 
For the Golden Eagles, Laura Milos recorded a double-double with 12 kills and 14 digs. CeCe Madison led the Oral Roberts' offense with 17 kills with Shelby Cox adding 14. Defensively, alongside Milos' 14 digs was Tori Roe, who also recorded 14.
 
Turning Point
After splitting sets one and two with the Golden Eagles, the Coyotes battled at the net for game three. A ball-handling error by Milos tied the game at 12-12, but USD took the lead at 13 when Jessen served Kerns who hammered one home. The Coyotes would take the third set 25-18.
 
Notable
  • The Coyotes held Milos, the reigning AVCA National Player of the Week, to an attack percentage of .171. Milos ranks third in the nation for kills per set (5.25), but only tallied 12 kills off 41 total attempts on Tuesday.
  • South Dakota marched to a victory off a season-best attack percentage of .409. Five players posted an attack percentage above 30 percent led by Kerns' .643 with 10 kills off 14 total attempts.
  • Oral Roberts entered the match at the top of the Summit standings at 4-0. After tonight, no team remains undefeated in Summit play. South Dakota is in a four-way tie for second place at 3-1.
