South Dakota hits the hardwood with UCLA Tuesday

Playing its third-straight road contest, the South Dakota men's basketball team closes its West Coast tour at UCLA Tuesday with an 8 p.m. (CST) tip-off inside Pauley Pavilion. The road trip started on Thursday with a victory over Northern Arizona then continued Sunday with the Coyotes topping San Jose State.  
 
The Game
South Dakota is 11-3 on the season, one of five teams in all of Division I with 11 victories to date. The record is also the best start in the Division I era for USD. UCLA enters Tuesday's contest 7-3 overall after starting the season 7-1.
 
The Bruins
Aaron Holiday leads UCLA with 17.6 points per game. Holiday is one of four Bruins to start all 10 game this year, and shoots 46.8 percent from the field. He also leads UCLA with 18-made 3-point baskets. The In the preseason media poll, the Bruins were tabbed to place third in the Pac-12 this year after making a run to the Sweet 16 a season ago, and tying the school record with 28 regular season victories.
 
UCLA, one of the most storied college basketball programs in the history of the game, has captured a record 11 national championships, holding four undefeated records and has gone to the Final Four 18 times.
 
The Coyotes
South Dakota continues to be led by Matt Mooney, who averages 17.2 points per game. However, Tyler Hagedorn has two-straight 20-point games including a career-best 27 points in the 76-62 victory over San Jose State. Hagedorn has raised his average to 14.6 points per game and makes 46.2 percent of his field goal attempts.
 
One of five teams with 11 wins; the Coyotes are joined by Duke, Villanova, Purdue and Albany in the win column at 11. Thirteen schools have tallied 10 wins.
 
The Series
Tuesday night is the first meeting on the hardwood between the two schools. South Dakota has played two Pac-12 opponents: Stanford in 2014-15 and Oregon State in the 2009-10 season. The Coyotes fell in both contests.
 
One Last Thing
South Dakota has made a 3-point basket in 411 consecutive games, dating back to Jan. 16, 2004. The Coyotes kept the streak alive with 11-made long range shots Sunday at San Jose State.
