VERMILLION, S.D.— An early goal doomed the South Dakota soccer team Sunday afternoon in a 1-0 exhibition loss to Drake at First Bank and Trust Field.
The Bulldogs scored in the 11
th minute of action when Kasey Hurt sent a corner kick into the box that Rebecca Rodgers got her head on and crossed the goal line in the left corner of the frame.
The Coyotes tallied 11 shots in the contest including six on goal but were unable to land any in the back of the net. Sophomore 
Taryn LaBree totaled three of the shots and had two strong looks with one shot sailing just inches over the bar and another just wide of the goal.
All four goalkeepers on the Coyotes' roster saw time in the net with 
Coral Suarez stopping five shots while 
Parker Rytz and 
Sydney Hardin each had a save. 
Emma Harkleroad did not face a shot in net.
Playing three periods of 30 minutes each in the exhibition format, the Coyotes cycled through 26 players with seven different players attempting a shot.
South Dakota opens the 2017 regular season Friday at Gonzaga at 9 p.m. followed by a match at Eastern Washington Sunday with a 1 p.m. start.
