VERMILLION, S.D.—
Michael Runde has been promoted to associate head coach for South Dakota volleyball as announced by Head Coach
Leanne Williamson Tuesday. In addition, Williamson has added
Madeline Dolny as director of operations, bringing the staff to the maximum allowable by the NCAA.
Â
Runde is entering his fourth season with the program. He spent two years as a graduate assistant, from 2013-15, and returned to USD in 2016 following a one-year stint at Southeast Missouri State. He led the team to back-to-back 19-win seasons before winning a Summit League title with a program-record 25 wins last season.
Â
"It was humbling to hear that I had been promoted to associate head coach," Runde said. "It reiterates my commitment to the program and its commitment to me. I believe in the University of South Dakota, and there are a number of positives that we can accomplish on the horizon."
Â
Dolny comes to USD after spending the 2016 season as the head volleyball coach at Mountain Crest High School in Hyrum, Utah. In addition she has coaches Mountain West volleyball club in Logan, Utah, Front Range volleyball club in Denver, Colorado, and has worked volleyball camps at University of Colorado and University of Arizona. She played collegiately at North Idaho College from 2008-10.
Â
"Madeline is efficient and thorough, and has already had an impact on our program," Williamson said. "Having an additional person on staff allows the coaches to spend more time focusing on the players and the overall team, rather than splitting time with coordinating the logistics."
Â
"I am fortunate to have the opportunity to be a part of USD volleyball," Dolny said. "Leanne runs an outstanding program, and her coaching staff helps push USD volleyball's success. I am excited to learn and grow from the coaching staff."
Â
Dolny is responsible for the day-to-day operations such as assisting with film and stats, coordinating all aspects of team travel, managing the programs budge, organize campus recruiting visits and any other duties assigned by Williamson.
Â
In addition to Runde and Dolny, Williamson's staff includes former graduate assistant
Shelly Stumpff, who was named a full-time assistant coach back in June.
Â
The coaching staff and its Coyotes will head to Laramie, Wyoming, and open the season at the Rumble in the Rockies where they first face-up against the Wyoming Cowgirls at 7 p.m. Friday. The team will take on Portland and Abilene Christian Saturday.
