Coyotes fall short in five

GREELEY, Colo.—South Dakota pulled off a 25-20 fourth-set win against Northern Colorado to send the match into five, but the Coyotes fell short. The scores went 25-14, 25-17, 14-25, 20-25, and 16-14. Kim Weissmann had a match-high 16 kills to lead three Bears in double figures. Kortney Lockey added 14 more while Alex Kloehn finished with 10.
 
Who Stood Out
South Dakota outside hitter Rachel Schmidt had a match-high 11 kills with six digs, with Meagan Kerns adding nine kills and four digs. Defensively, both Anne Rasmussen and Kristina Susak recorded double digits in digs with 24 and 15, respectively. Brittany Jessen landed 26 assists.
 
Turning Point
After two sets, the Coyotes came out at the beginning of set three with an 11-2 run that put South Dakota in good standings. Midway through set three, South Dakota would go on a 5-0 run with Kerns serving four straight points. Kerns would go on to close out the third set with a kill from Jessen.
 
Notables
  • This is only the second time the Coyotes and the Bears went into five sets since the programs started playing each other. The first time was back in 2001, South Dakota won (3-2).
  • Kristina Susak had a career-high 15 digs against the Bears.
  • Anne Rasmussen recorded 24 digs, which is second-best for her this season.
  • The fourth set had four lead changes and the fifth set had three.
