GRAND FORKS, N.D. — The South Dakota soccer team won 1-0 over the University of North Dakota Sunday in Grand Forks, North Dakota. The victory is the second-straight shutout for the Coyotes and the first victory in Grand Forks since the 2009 season.

"I'm just very proud of this group and how far they have come in the last few weeks," head coach
Mandy Green said. "With all the injuries and sickness, people are stepping up and playing big roles for us.

"We are giving ourselves chances to win. They fought, battled and worked hard. I am so happy for them and they are getting rewarded for the work they are putting in."

The Coyotes (2-4) fired 19 shots including 10 on goal, both season highs, but received a bit good fortune in the 24
th minute. North Dakota (2-3-1) scooted an own-goal across the goal line to give South Dakota the 1-0 lead which would hold up for the victory.

"Katelyn (Floysand) shot the ball, 30 yards from goal," Green explained. "It was deflected and ricocheted around and into the net."

To get the victory, the Coyotes withstood 11 shots from the Fighting Hawks including four shots on-goal. Junior goalkeeper
Coral Suarez stopped all four shots for her second-consecutive shutout in the net.

Taryn LaBree fired a game-high six shots for the Coyotes, with four shots landing on-goal, also a game-high.
Kellee Willer attempted three shots while
Katlin Ptacek,
Makenzie Burmeister and
Maddison Sullivan each tallied two shots.
Katelyn Floysand and
Dani Brown along with Willer and Ptacek each had a shot land on frame.

South Dakota had an even distribution of shots in each half, tallying 10 in the first half with four on goal and nine shots in the second stanza with five on goal.

Emma Contino led North Dakota with two shots, each landing on goal, while Olivia Swenson tallied nine saves in the net.

South Dakota continues its three-game road trip Friday in Colorado Springs, Colorado, with a 7 p.m. contest against Colorado College.
