BROOKINGS, S.D. – The South Dakota soccer team fell 1-0 in two overtime periods to South Dakota State Thursday night at Fishback Soccer Park. The game was part of the South Dakota Showdown Series presented by South Dakota Corn.

Abigail Kastens tallied the game-winning goal for the defending Summit League champions in the 104th minute after receiving a pass near the corner of the penalty box and finishing to the bottom left corner of the net.

The South Dakota (7-5-2, 2-2 Summit) defense fought off a first-half barrage from the Jackrabbits as senior goalkeeper Parker Rytz tallied six saves in the half. For the game, she totaled eight saves including one in the second half and another in the first overtime period.

The Coyotes' best scoring opportunity came in the 82nd minute as junior Taryn LaBree knocked a 22-yard shot at goal. However, the South Dakota State (9-4-1, 4-0 Summit) goalkeeper made the play on the ball to keep the game scoreless.

South Dakota also received shots from Amanda Carpio, Tiannah Moore and Kellee Willer. Carina McLennan led the Jackrabbits with five shots, placing two on frame.

"I'm proud of the women for their effort today," head coach Michael Thomas said. "We have to turn the page towards a very good Omaha team."

South Dakota completes a three-game road trip at Omaha on Sunday with kickoff slated for 5 p.m. Following the contest, the Coyotes conclude the regular season with three-straight games at home beginning with Purdue Fort Wayne on Thursday, Oct. 18.
