VERMILLION, S.D. – Senior
Trey Burch-Manning tallied a double-double and four Coyotes scored in double figures as South Dakota men's basketball defeated Dakota Wesleyan 77-61 in exhibition action Tuesday night.
Â
The contest was the first chance for Coyote fans to see first-year head coach
Todd Lee in action in the Sanford Coyote Sports Center. A hallmark of Lee's system is a strong defense and the Coyotes held DWU to just 30.9 percent shooting from the field and 25.7 percent from long-range.

Â
After a sloppy first half, South Dakota shot 50 percent from the field in the second half to finish the game shooting 40.8 percent. Burch-Manning totaled 15 of his 20 points in the second half and finished the game with 11 rebounds.
Â
Five minutes into the second half, the Coyotes took command of the game with a 15-0 run. Junior
Triston Simpson sank a layup to spark the run that eventually pushed USD's lead to 17 points. The run ended with 8:28 remaining in the game when junior
Cody Kelley found Burch-Manning under the basket for the layup.
Â
The lead ballooned to 24 points after a pair of
Tyler Peterson free throws with 1:30 remaining in the game for a 77-53 score. Dakota Wesleyan made a final push in the closing moments making the final score 77-61.
Â
Burch-Manning tallied his 20 points on 9-of-16 shooting as Simpson totaled 17 points, Peterson 13 and Kelley 12. Senior
Logan Power, along with Simpson and Peterson, grabbed nine rebounds each as USD outrebounded DWU 54-40.
Â
Ty Hoglund, a 1,000-point scorer in just two years at Dakota Wesleyan, led the Tigers with 18 points. Samuel McCloud added 12 points and seven rebounds.

South Dakota opens the regular season on Wednesday, Nov. 7, hosting York inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center at 7 p.m.
