Â
South Dakota grabbed its first lead of the game on a pair of
Tyler Peterson free throws with 6:44 on the clock at 19-18 and entered intermission leading 35-31.
Â

Brandon Armstrong hit back-to-back 3-point baskets and the Coyotes went on an 8-1 run to regain the lead at 45-37.
Â
The Coyote lead would hold steady throughout the second half, getting as high as nine points at 52-43 with 4:02 on the clock.

Cody Kelley who was out with an injury, was sent to the free throw line on back-to-back possessions and calmly sank four-straight attempts to seal the victory at 58-52.
Â
South Dakota shot 40 percent (18-of-45) from the field while holding UMBC to 32.7 percent (17-of-52).
