Men’s hoops set to celebrate seniors in home finale

MBB vs. Omaha

It's Senior Day on Saturday as the South Dakota men's basketball team hosts Omaha at 3:30 p.m. inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center. The careers of Joshua Doss, Nick Fuller, Carlton Hurst and Austin Sparks will be celebrated in a pregame ceremony.

The Game
South Dakota is 23-6 overall and 10-2 in the Summit League while Omaha holds a 9-18 overall record and 4-7 in the loop.
 
The Coyotes enter the game a half-game out of first place in the Summit League while the Mavericks are jockeying for position in league. Currently, Omaha is in a fifth-place tie with North Dakota State.
 
Earlier this season, South Dakota topped Omaha 85-71 behind 25 points from Tyler Hagedorn and 17 points off the hands of Matt Mooney. Nick Fuller came off the bench for 16 points and eight rebounds.
 
The Mavericks
Zach Johnson, the reigning Summit League Player of the Week, leads Omaha with 18.1 points per game and shoots at a 53.6 percent clip. Mitch Hahn, who missed 16 games, averages 11.1 points and a team-best 7.4 rebounds per game.
 
Omaha last played on Wednesday, falling at Denver 94-78. The loss stopped two-straight wins the Mavericks had, with victories over Western Illinois and Fort Wayne. In the game against Denver, Daniel Norl scored 21 points on 9-of-12 shooting as JT Gibson tallied 14 points. Johnson was the final Maverick in double figures with 11 points.
 
The Coyotes
South Dakota won its Division I era school record 23rd game when defeating Oral Roberts. Tyler Hagedorn had a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds while Matt Mooney added 19 points. The coyotes had seven possessions in the second half that they did not score.
 
For the year, Mooney leads the Coyotes with 17.3 points per game while Hagedorn pours in 14 points per contest. Triston Simpson has raised his average to 9.1 points, but is averaging double-digits in Summit League contests at 11.6 points per game. Trey Burch-Manning leads the team with 6.9 rebounds per contest.
 
Over its last three games, South Dakota has shot 58.3 percent from the field, including a season-best 61 percent shooting performance against Fort Wayne and 75 percent shooting performance in the second half against Oral Roberts.
 
The Series
South Dakota leads the all-time series 55-48 and olds a 33-18 edge in Vermillion. In the Division I era, the series is knotted at six after the Coyotes topped Omaha on Jan. 20 this year.
 
One Last Thing
South Dakota is the top defensive team in the Summit League and holds a top 52 national ranking in three of the major defensive statistics. The Coyotes give up 67.1 points per game, ranking 52nd in the nation, while the field-goal percentage defense of 41 percent ranks 46th in the country. The Coyotes have a 3-point field goal percentage defense of 31.9 percent, a mark that ranks 44th in the nation. All three marks are tops in the Summit League.
