MBB: Summit League

ELMHURST, Ill. – South Dakota junior guard Matt Mooney has been named a first-team all-Summit League honoree with Trey Burch-Manning and Tyler Hagedorn earning second-team honors. Nick Fuller and Triston Simpson were also honored by the league when it announced its awards Wednesday on a telecast on Midco Sports Network.

Mooney earns first-team honors for the second-straight season after finishing fourth in the league in scoring with an average of 19.8 points per game. The Wauconda, Illinois, native twice eclipsed the 30-point plateau in the Summit League season, including a career-high 33 points against South Dakota State on Feb. 22. Mooney finished the conference season ranked second with 2.3 steals per game and eighth with 2.9 assists per game.

Hagedorn, from Norfolk, Nebraska, had a breakout junior season, averaging 12.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. His 98 total rebounds during the conference season ranks him fifth in the league. Hagedorn scored double-digit points in nine league games including 25 against Omaha on Jan. 20. Hagedorn owns the league's top single-game field goal percentage of 90 percent when he sank 9-of-10 shots at Oral Roberts on Feb. 14.

Burch-Manning, a preseason second-team selection, averaged 8.6 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. Hailing from Federal Way, Washington, Burch-Manning ended the regular season ranked sixth in the league in rebounding and 12th in field goal percentage, making 48.4 percent of his shots.

Fuller, a graduate-transfer from Nebraska, earned a spot on the all-newcomer team after averaging 8.6 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. The native of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, tallied his first career double-double against Omaha on Feb. 17 with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Simpson, from Lincoln, Nebraska, earned honorable mention all-Summit League after averaging 10.4 points and 2.5 assists per game. He scored a career-high 20 points in the victory over SDSU on Jan. 24 and dished three or more assists on nine different occasions.

South Dakota, holding a Division I-era best 24 wins, plays Omaha on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. in the quarterfinal round of the Summit League Tournament at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center in Sioux Falls.
