PHOENIX, Ariz.—Grand Canyon catcher Niki Gonzalez hit a grand slam in the first inning and added a two-run double in the second to lead the Lopes to a 12-3, five-inning win against South Dakota Sunday on the final day of the Grand Canyon Classic.
 
The win avenged Grand Canyon's 10-1 loss to South Dakota two days ago. The Lopes totaled just eight hits, but took advantage of four Coyote errors and five free passes. Alexa Coons pitched all five innings for Grand Canyon to improve to 6-1. She allowed three runs on four hits and struck out three.
 
Jessica Rogers had a two-run triple in the top of the fourth that put South Dakota on the board. She scored USD's third run one batter later on a base hit by Lauren Wobken. Rogers was 9-for-13 in five games in Phoenix with two home runs, six RBIs and six runs scored.
 
South Dakota (6-15) will slide over to Tempe, Arizona, Tuesday for a 6 p.m. (MST) contest with Arizona State.
