TEMPE, Ariz.—Danielle Gibson homered twice and Jade Gortarez had two hits including a two-run home run as 14
th-ranked Arizona State shut out South Dakota 8-0 in five innings Tuesday at Farrington Softball Stadium.
It was the seventh consecutive win for Arizona State (17-2), the place where South Dakota head coach
Robert Wagner won two national championships. Wagner's Coyotes fell to 6-16.
Arizona State pitcher Giselle Juarez struck out 10 in four innings of work to improve to 6-1 on the season. She allowed three hits, two to USD first baseman
Jamie Holscher, and walked one.
In addition to Holscher, South Dakota got singles from
Lauren Eamiguel and
Christy Warnock. The Coyotes had two on with less than two outs in both the first and fourth innings but couldn't break through.
South Dakota continues its Spring Break week with a 7 p.m. (CT) contest against ninth-ranked Arizona Thursday in Tucson. It is the first of five games South Dakota will play at the Wildcat Invitational.
