TUCSON, Ariz.—USC Upstate entered play Friday with an 18-0 record and a No. 24 national ranking, but were stunned by South Dakota 7-4 at the Wildcat Classic hosted by University of Arizona.
 
The Spartans (18-2) boasted the nation's fourth-best batting average and were scoring nearly eight runs per game, but were kept in check by South Dakota pitchers Sarah Lisko and Dustie Durham. Lisko, a freshman from Henderson, Nevada, picked up her third collegiate victory by tossing the first four innings before handing off to Durham who allowed one hit in three scoreless innings of relief. Both the Spartans and Coyotes totaled nine hits apiece.
 
USC Upstate had allowed 25 runs all season before surrendering seven to South Dakota. The Coyotes (7-17) got two-out, run-scoring doubles from Jamie Holscher and Emily Winckler in the first, from Lauren Eamiguel in the third, and from Taylor Steinfeldt in the fifth. South Dakota was 5-for-10 with runners in scoring position.
 
Holscher, who homered against No. 9 Arizona Thursday, was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and scored three runs against USC Upstate. She is 8-for-14 in her last six games to up her average to a team-best .404. Eamiguel, who gave the Coyotes the lead for good with a two-run double in the third, made it 6-4 with an RBI single in the fifth. Steinfeldt followed with a double that made it 7-4.
 
Lisko (3-5) allowed four runs on eight hits. She pitched a 1-2-3 third inning against the heart of the order, and got a ground ball with runners on second and third to get out of the fourth. Durham pitched a perfect fifth and worked around back-to-back walks to begin the sixth. She got Brittany Case to ground out with two on to end the game.
 
South Dakota continues play Friday with a nightcap against San Diego.
