Ranked teams roll at UCLA on day one

LOS ANGELES—No. 25 Oklahoma State topped South Dakota 9-1 and top-ranked UCLA scored an 11-1 win against the Coyotes Friday at Easton Stadium. USD, now 15-34, will get a second crack Saturday with a 2 p.m. (PDT) matchup with Oklahoma State followed by a 4:30 p.m. (PDT) rematch with UCLA.

The Cowgirls scored six runs in the third inning highlighted by a two-run single by Madi Sue Montgomery to take command. Oklahoma State (35-14) also got a solo home run from Taylor Lynch in the first and a two-run blast by Whitney Whitehorn in the fourth. Cowgirl ace Emmie Robertson allowed five hits and one unearned run in five innings to pick up the win.
 
South Dakota center fielder Camille Fowler was 3-for-3 against Robertson. It was her team-leading seventh three-hit game of the season. Alyssa Fernandez singled and scored on a ground ball by Dustie Durham in the third. Jessica Rogers was 1-for-2 with a walk.
 
UCLA 11, USD 1
UCLA second baseman Kylee Perez hit a three-run home run during an eight-run second inning to pace the Bruins (42-3). Center fielder Bubba Nickles hit a three-run double later in the inning and catcher Taylor Pack tripled and scored as part of a three-run fourth. In the circle, Johanna Grauer allowed six hits and struck out six in five innings to improve to 4-0.
 
South Dakota first baseman Jamie Holscher was 2-for-3 against Grauer including her seventh double of the season. Dylan Underwood singled in her only at bat and came around to score in the fifth on a double by Fowler. Fernandez and Taylor Steinfeldt also had one hit each against the Bruins.
