Practice football field begins to take shape

Practice Field

08.10.2018

VERMILLION, S.D. – The DakotaDome renovation has begun with the first phase of the practice football field breaking ground earlier this week. The facility, being constructed north of the DakotaDome, is anticipated to be completed in November of this year.

"This field represents the continuation of our overall facility enhancement plan and is the first step in renovating the DakotaDome," South Dakota Director of Athletics David Herbster said. "The field will not only enhance our ability to deliver training and increased practice opportunities for football but will add another training surface for all our student-athletes."

A side practice field allows for ample space among all position groups while two video towers provide state-of-the-art filming capabilities. The permanent structures will connect to video editing systems inside the DakotaDome providing a streamlined process.

The 120-yard artificial turf playing surface gives the Coyote football team the ability to practice in the DakotaDome for games played indoors, or in the elements for outdoor contests.

"The addition of the outdoor practice facility will give us, in combination with the dome, a state-of-the-art practice facility that provides us the ability to practice on multiple surfaces indoors and outdoors."
