VERMILLION, S.D. – The South Dakota women's soccer team jumped out to a 2-0 lead in its regular-season opener but ultimately fell 4-2 to Wyoming Thursday at First Bank & Trust Soccer Complex.

Junior
Amanda Carpio gave USD an early 1-0 lead in the 13
th minute when she connected on shot landing in the upper-left corner of the goal. The scoring opportunity was created when junior
Kellee Willer dropped a pass back to senior
Tayler Karas, who then sent a booming pass across the midfield line and into Carpio's possession. Carpio took two dribbles on the ball before scoring the Coyotes' first goal of the season.

South Dakota entered intermission with the 1-0 lead.

In the 51
st minute, freshman
Tiannah Moore recorded her first-career goal giving South Dakota (0-1) the 2-0 lead. Moore took control of the ball 30 yards from the goal and dribbled around a Wyoming (1-0) defender where she then launched the 12-yard shot for the goal.

Wyoming answered back just 30 seconds later as Amber Vokoun picked up a missed shot from Summer Taube and placed the ball into the back of the net. The Cowgirls then knotted the game at 2-2 in the 64
th minute on a goal from Annika Clayton.

The go-ahead score came from a scrum in front of the goal where Elaine Webber poked the ball to Brittney Stark who was able to find the back of the net in the 66
th minute. Clayton tallied her second goal of the game in the 74
th minute off a free kick from 22 yards out.

Carpio led the Coyotes with three shots, placing all three on frame while
Kellee Willer,
Taylor Cotter,
Joana Zanin and Moore each tallied a shot. Wyoming countered with 15 total shots as Clayton led with five in the game, including four on goal.

Senior
Parker Rytz earned the start in goal for South Dakota, stopping six shots. Her counterpart, Cristina Salazar, totaled three saves for Wyoming.

The Coyotes travel to Northern Iowa on Sunday for a 1 p.m. contest.
