VERMILLION, S.D. – South Dakota volleyball made it a school-record 15 wins in a row with Friday's 25-17, 25-17, 25-18 Summit League sweep over Western Illinois inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center.
The Coyotes (18-1), surpassing the 14 wins in a row from the 2007 team, had a strong .378 hitting percentage in the contest, the second-highest single match percentage this season.
Sami Slaughter had 14 kills on just 15 attempts for a .875 hitting percentage in a match that saw South Dakota register 45 kills on only 82 attacks.
"Sami had 14 kills and hit .875," coach
Leanne Williamson said. "I mean, that's really, really hard to do.
"I think, just overall, Madison (Jurgens) got the ball to people that were going to have success. We were able to find ourselves in one-on-one situations a lot.
"So I really liked how we got our offense going."
Jurgens contributed 34 assists and nine digs as South Dakota moved to 7-0 in the Summit League.
Maddie Wiedenfeld had eight kills,
Elizabeth Juhnke and
Elizabeth Loschen tallied seven apiece while
Madison Harms chipped in six. Wiedenfeld hit .636, Loschen .429 and Harms .417.
Anne Rasmussen tallied 13 digs and Juhnke added nine.
The Coyotes will close out the first portion of the Summit League schedule with Sunday's match in Sioux Falls at the Sanford Pentagon against second-place Purdue Fort Wayne. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
"We're going to celebrate this tonight, were going to enjoy this," said Williamson. "Tomorrow (Saturday) we'll get back at it and prepare for Fort Wayne. This is a match we've been looking forward too, you know, even though we want to take it one day at a time, this is kind of the next big one.
"One of the bigger matches we have had so far. We're excited to play in Sioux Falls in front of some of those fans out there and show what we can do in a different area."
