The Game
South Dakota travels to Utah for a game at 1 p.m. Saturday inside the Huntsman Center in Salt Lake City.
The Coyotes
The Summit League preseason favorite, South Dakota, started off 3-0 this winter with wins over the Horizon League favorite Green Bay and Missouri Valley favorite Drake. The Coyotes defeated Drake 102-94 on Wednesday night, overcoming a 17-point deficit to win in overtime. Junior guard Chloe Lamb tied her career high of 23 points with six 3-pointers. She becomes the first Coyote to sink more than five triples in a game since last November. South Dakota's back on the road Saturday, putting in more than 6,000 miles of travel in the first two weeks of the season.
The Utes
Utah, picked seventh in the Pac-12 Preseason Poll, opens its home slate with the Coyotes after a 0-2 start on the road. Utah women's basketball boasts a 500-108 all-time record in Salt Lake City, which ranks in the top-five of the NCAA for home win percentage. Utah won 13-straight to open the season a year ago, not taking its first loss until Pac-12 play in January. A handful of injuries and lack of depth late in the season led them to lose nine of their last 11 games. Utah still finished 20-10, but ultimately declined a bid to the Women's National Invitation Tournament. This season, sophomore point guard Dru Gylten was named to the Nancy Lieberman Award Preseason Watch List.
The Series
Utah won the only meeting in the series in Utah head coach Lynne Roberts' first game as head coach on Nov. 13, 2015. The Utes won 66-59 in Salt Lake City with Duffy's elder sister, Caitlin, leading the Coyotes with 20 points and rebounds on the day.
One Last Thing
Under head coach Dawn Plitzuweit, the Coyotes have wins over teams from the Big Ten (Illinois, Michigan State), Big 12 (Iowa State) and the SEC (Missouri).
