The Game
It's the battle of the Summit League and Horizon League favorites on Saturday as South Dakota travels to Green Bay for a 1 p.m. tip-off inside the Kress Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The game will be carried on ESPN3 with play-by-play from Ted Stefaniak and color commentary by Cordero Barkley.
The Coyotes
South Dakota has high expectations as they return 83 percent of scoring from last year's NCAA Tournament team. The Coyotes are led by Summit League Preseason Player of the Year in
Ciara Duffy, while junior
Hannah Sjerven, senior
Madison McKeever and junior
Chloe Lamb all joined her on the preseason all-league teams. Joining the quartet in the starting line-up this season is junior
Monica Arens. All five starters reached double-figures in South Dakota's season opening 80-76 victory at Northeastern on Tuesday. The Coyotes used 13 unanswered points in a fourth-quarter comeback to grit out the road win.
The Phoenix
Green Bay has become a perennial mid-major powerhouse under head coach Kevin Borseth, who has coached 16 of the program's 42 winning seasons. Hampered with injuries a season ago, Wright State spoiled Green Bay's 20-year streak of Horizon League regular season titles and a 55-52 result in the tournament championship kept the Phoenix out of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in five years. Karly Murphy's back from last year's season-ending injury, pacing the Phoenix with 30 points and nine boards in a 111-105 double-overtime victory over Central Michigan on Wednesday to open the season.
The Series
This marks the fourth meeting in series history between South Dakota and Green Bay. The Phoenix lead the series 2-1 with the Coyotes' first win coming last season in Vermillion. South Dakota defeated Green Bay 55-49 inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center last December behind an 18-point performance from alumna
Allison Arens. Green Bay's Frankie Wurtz paced the Phoenix with 16 points.
One Last Thing
South Dakota women's basketball is looking for the program's 800th win on Saturday.
