LOS ANGELES—Loyola Marymount built an early lead and rode the arm of Hannah Bandimere to score a 5-2 win against South Dakota Thursday at Smith Field. It was the first meeting between the two programs.
Lion left fielder Molly Grumbo hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first and shortstop Andrea Gonzalez made it 3-0 with a two-run double in the second. It was Grumbo's third home run of the season while Gonzalez doubled her RBI total to four this season.
Bandimere (7-4) went six strong in the circle for LMU (10-7). She allowed one unearned run on two hits. She had no strike outs and didn't walk anyone.
Dustie Durham had two of the Coyotes' three hits. She had an RBI double off Bandimere in the fourth that cut the lead to 3-1, and tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly by
Lauren Wobken in the seventh for the final score of the game. It was her Summit-leading third triple of the season.
South Dakota (14-9) heads back to Arizona and will compete in five games at a tournament hosted by Arizona State University Friday thru Sunday. The Coyotes open against Lehigh (9 a.m. MT) and James Madison (11:30 a.m. MT) Friday morning.
