LINCOLN, NEB. -- After a strong start to the game, the South Dakota Coyotes cooled off in a 76-69 loss to the Nebraska Huskers inside the Pinnacle Bank Arena Tuesday night. The loss drops the Yotes to 0-3 on the season.
Stanley Umude and
A.J. Plitzuweit paced the Coyotes on the night. Umude finished with 25 points and 11 rebounds to record his first double-double of the season. Plitzuweit recorded a season-high 24 points on 7-of-16 shooting.
The Huskers (3-1) were led by Teddy Allen with 23 points, 16 in the second half, on 6-of-12 shooting. Four other Huskers recorded double digits in points.

The Coyotes started off the first half with an 11-9 lead before the Huskers came back to tie things at 22 all. From there, Nebraska turned things up a bit on the offensive side to take a 36-29 lead into the intermission.

In the second half, USD cut the lead to 43-39 with just under 15 minutes left in the game after a jumper by Umude. After that, the Coyotes would stick around with the Huskers but couldn't muster up the big momentum swing to get them within range of tying things up late.

The Coyotes shot 35 percent (23-of-65) from the field and 26.9 percent (7-of-26) from deep on the night. They also grabbed 38 rebounds and dished out 14 assists.

The Huskers shot 40 percent (24-of-60) from the field and 29 percent (7-of-24) from deep. They grabbed 46 rebounds and recorded 25 bench points compared to the Yotes 12.

South Dakota hits the road once more when they face new Summit League member Kansas City in a non-conference battle on Saturday at 7 p.m.
