Coyotes carry momentum on the road to Grand Forks

WBB at North Dakota

The Game
South Dakota makes the trip to North Dakota for a game at 2 p.m. Sunday inside the Betty Englestad Center in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

The Coyotes
No. 22/17 South Dakota (21-2, 10-0 Summit) looks to continue its momentum on the road. In the first two games of USD's three-game road swing, the Coyotes outscored the home teams by 32 points apiece. South Dakota has run through its first 10 Summit contests by an average margin of 35 points a game. One of the largest differences in the games has been USD's ability to finish at the rim. The Coyotes are outscoring Summit foes by an average of 22 points in the paint. Earlier this week, senior guard Ciara Duffy was named a semifinalist for the Her Hoops Stats' Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year. Duffy's reached double-digit scoring in 22 of 23 games this season and is coming off a career high 31 points at Denver.

The Fighting Hawks
North Dakota (14-9, 5-5 Summit) graduated six players who made up 66 percent of its scoring a year ago. While there are plenty of new faces getting the minutes this season, the Fighting Hawks remain similar to past Travis Brewster teams in that they are physical, one of the best rebounding teams in the country and find a way to get to the stripe. UND finished its nonconference slate with a 9-4 record, equaling its best Division I start from 2013-14 and 2014-15. Junior Julia Fleecs is the lone Fighting Hawk averaging double-figures at 12.3 points an outing this season.

The Series
North Dakota leads the series between the old NCC foes 49-29. South Dakota has won the last seven meetings against the Fighting Hawks, including sweeping all three games last year in UND's first Summit League season.

One Last Thing
When Denver jumped out to a 12-4 start in last Sunday's game, it marked the largest deficit the Coyotes have faced in a game during Summit play this year. USD has not trailed in the second half of a league game this season.
