SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Despite singles wins from
Jana Lazarevic and
Habiba Aly for the third straight match, South Dakota women's tennis fell to Missouri State, 5-2, in Sunday's match played at the Cooper Tennis Center.
Lazarevic, now 4-2 this spring, easily defeated Alye Darter (6-1, 6-0) at No. 1 singles while Aly, now 4-1, posted a 6-4, 6-4 win over Anna Alons at No. 2 singles.
South Dakota's doubles team of Aly and
Agustina Diaz defeated Claire Martin and Mara Presot, 6-3, at No. 3 doubles. However, Missouri State won the doubles point by winning the other two doubles points.
"Today's match was very similar to yesterday," coach
Brett Barnett said. "This came down to a couple of points. We had some chances in both doubles and singles and didn't capitalize on a lot of set points.
"We're playing better and better throughout the lineup which is good. Jana and Biba are doing a great job being dependable at the top for us."
South Dakota (0-6) travels to Minneapolis to face Minnesota on Friday and Wisconsin Green Bay on Sunday.
