Softball announces spring slate

2021 Schedule

VERMILLION, S.D.—Six tournaments before Summit League play including trips to Furman University, University of Kansas and University of Texas highlight South Dakota softball's schedule announced Tuesday by head coach Robert Wagner.

The season begins Feb. 12 in Hammond, Louisiana, at a tournament hosted by Southeastern Louisiana. It marks the Coyotes' first visit to Hammond since 2013. Two weeks later, USD will make its first appearance in Greenville, South Carolina, where the Coyotes will compete in a tournament hosted by Furman Feb. 26-28.

A pair of weekend tournaments in Orlando, Florida, serve as bookends for the Coyotes' Spring Break trip to the Sunshine State. A return to Lawrence, Kansas, for the first time since USD's inaugural season in 1979 follows for a tournament March 19-21. South Dakota's first trip to Austin, Texas, is set for March 26-28. South Dakota hasn't faced Kansas since 2014 (win, 5-1) and has yet to meet the Texas Longhorns.

South Dakota hosts North Dakota April 2-3 to begin Summit League play. The Coyotes also host Kansas City (April 17-18) and Western Illinois (May 1-2). Road trips in conference play include North Dakota State (April 10-11), South Dakota State (April 24-25) and Omaha (May 7-8). The Summit League Tournament is set to be held May 12-15 in Fargo, North Dakota.
