VERMILLION, S.D.—A pair of DakotaDome records were broken to highlight Saturday's action at the Dakota Realty Invitational on Saturday on Mildred J. Hillenbrand Memorial Track.
The first DakotaDome record came from sophomore
Brithton Senior in the men's 60-meter hurdles, locking a season-best 7.90 seconds. The previous record of 7.96 seconds was held by Coyote hurdles coach
Teivaskie Lewin. Senior extends his Summit lead and moves to 14th in the NCAA with the mark. Classmate
Hugo Morvan finished runner-up in 8.08 seconds, just three-hundredths off his personal best from a week ago. Freshman
Tre Young wrapped up the sweep in 8.42 seconds.
The second came at the meet's end as Coyote alum
Chris Nilsen was the only athlete left competing on the pole vault runway. Nilsen vaulted 19 feet, 4 ¼ inches, to break the DakotaDome record of 19-2 ½ held by Coyote coach
Derek Miles.
Sophomore
Gen Hirata flew over 14-1 ¼ for a personal best in the pole vault. The height extends her Summit lead and ranks sixth in the NCAA this season. She becomes the fourth Coyote to jump 14-feet indoors, joining All-Americans Emily Grove, Bethany Buell and
Helen Falda. Four teammates cleared a best of 13-2 ½ on the day with junior
Landon Kemp and senior
Makiah Hunt taking second and third based on attempts.
Both
Zack Anderson and junior
Jack Durst cleared 7-0 ½ in the men's high jump to finish first and second, respectively. Anderson was competing unattached as he no remaining indoor eligibility, but Durst improved his league-leading height by a quarter inch. He's tied for fourth in the nation.
Blake Vande Hoef, also competing unattached, took third in 6-6 ¾.
Freshman
Sara Reifenrath had quite the day by winning the 400 meters, 200 meters and anchoring the winning 4x400-meter relay. She improved her league-leading times in both open events, clocking 24.58 seconds for 200 meters and 56.10 seconds for 400 meters. Nationally, she ranks 24th in the 400 meters and 34th in the 200 meters with the marks. The Coyotes swept the 200 meters with freshman
Erin Kinney finishing second in 25.94 seconds and sophomore
Hannah Young taking third in 26.15.
Reifenrath also anchored the Coyotes winning 4x400-meter relay, holding off 2020 Summit League Most Outstanding Performer Sasha Wells on the carry. Joining her on the relay were senior

Madison Jochum and senior
Alli Wroblewski to clock a time of 3:54.34.
South Dakota swept the women's and men's pentathlon competitions. Competing unattached,
Kamberlyn Lamer won the women's pentathlon in 3,909 points and sophomore
Will Stupalsky took home the men's pentathlon title in 2,922 points.
With Lamer pacing her in the pentathlon, senior
Holly Gerberding improved her season mark to 3,717 points. She moves to seventh in the NCAA this season with the score.
Senior
Ethan Bray won the collegiate men's pole vault competition with a clearance of 17-11. Freshman
Eerik Haamer, senior
Kaleb Ellis and sophomore
Marshall Faurot all tallied personal bests in the competition to improve their place on the Coyote Top 10 list. Haamer cleared a best of 17-5, while both Ellis and Faurot made 17-1. All four rank in the NCAA's top-20, with Bray's mark of 18-1 from a week ago holding onto fourth. Haamer moves to ninth with today's jump, while Faurot and Ellis rank 19th.
The Coyote pack posted impressive times in the women's mile to rank second and third in the Summit standings. Freshman
Abrielle Jirele outkicked senior
Jonna Bart to capture the mile in 5:04.17. Bart crossed the line in 5:04.72, while sophomore
Maddie Lavin took third in 5:09.22.
Bart and Jirele flip-flopped places in the 3,000 meters with the senior clocking 10:21.66 to win. Jirele finished in 10:22.42. Freshman
Lizzy Kramer placed third in 10:36.41.
Sophomore
Ardell Inlay clocked a personal best 6.87 seconds to win the 60 meters. The time ranks third in the Summit and moves him into ninth on the Coyote Top 10. Sophomore
Dylan Kautz finished third in 6.96 seconds.
The sophomore tandem finished 1-2 in the men's 200 meters as well. Inlay clocked 22.41 to win, while Kautz placed second in 22.60 seconds.
Doubling up in the distance races, junior
Merga Gemeda swept both the mile and 3,000 meters. He clocked 4:22.46 for the mile and 8:48.94 for the 3,000 meters. South Dakota swept the top-three of the men's mile with
Kallo Arno clocking 4:25.35 and
Clayton Whitehead clocking 4:26.05.
Charlie Babcock finished runner-up in the 3,000 meters in 8:52.68.
Freshman
Jacob Jenkins was another double-winner on Saturday by sweeping the horizontal jumps. He captured the triple jump in 47-1 ½ and the long jump in 22-1 ½. Junior
Jarek Kindle took third in the long jump with a mark of 20-11 ¾.
Junior
Jessie Sullivan marked down new personal bests in both throwing events. He won the shot put with a mark of 56-4 ¾ for sixth-best distance in school history. Sullivan took second place in the weight throw competition with a personal best throw of 63-7 ½. He moves to fourth in USD history for that event.
Senior
Callie Henrich captured the weight throw in 64-1 ½, a mark more than four feet further than the next competitor. Henrich also took second in the shot put with a throw of 48-2 ½. Junior
Josephine Starner was third in the shot put with a mark of 47-10.
Sophomore
Carly Haring won the high jump for the third time in as many meets this season with a height of 5-7 ¼.
The Coyotes swept the men's and women's 800 meters. Sophomore
Braden Peters took the men's title in 1:56.89 and junior
Haley Arens won the women's in 2:16.97. USD swept the women's 800 meters with freshman
McKenna Herrmann finishing second in 2:17.64 and Jochum clocking 2:17.65 for third.
Freshman
Lauren Meyer won the triple jump with a mark of 36-5 ¾.
Senior
Matt Slagus posted a pair of second-place finishes for the day. He took second to teammate
Jessie Sullivan in the shot put, throwing 53-4 ½, and finished runner-up in the weight throw in 65-5 ½.
In addition to her runner-up finish in the 200 meters, Kinney took second in the 60 meters with a time of 7.83 seconds.
Other third-place finishes on the day included freshman
Jacy Pulse in the 60-meter hurdles (9.12 seconds), senior
Danielle Thompson in the 400 meters (59.48) and
Dylan Blake in the 800 meters (1:58.93).
South Dakota will take next week off before returning to action at the Bison Open on Feb. 5-6 in Fargo, North Dakota.
