VB adds three on national signing day

VERMILLION, S.D. – South Dakota head volleyball coach Leanne Williamson is pleased to announce the addition of three players – Avery Beckett, Alexis Moses, Madi Woddin – set to join the team ahead of the 2022 fall season.
 
"I am very excited for this group to join the Coyote volleyball family," Williamson said. "All three student athletes will be great additions on the court and in the classroom, and I know they will have an impact on our program. 
 
"They have all played at a very high level in club and high school which will help them make the transition to the college game. Most importantly, Avery, Alexis, and Madi are all great people who will continue to impact our culture."
 
Information on each athlete follows:
 
Avery Beckett | Outside Hitter | Waverly, Iowa | Waverly Shell-Rock HS
The 5-foot, 11-inch Beckett was a three-year starter and four-year varsity contributor for Waverly Shell-Rock teams that qualified for two state tournaments and posted a 168-33 record in that span. She led her Go-Hawk team to the state championship match as a senior, compiling 427 kills, second-most among Class 4A players. She led the entire state of Iowa with a school-record 561 kills as a junior while also contributing 316 digs and 33 service aces on way to earning first-team All-State honors. She accumulated 1,360 kills and 534 digs in her four-year playing career that included three times earning all-conference honors. 
 
Beckett is a member of the National Honor Society who also participated in track and softball in high school while playing her club volleyball for Six Pack.
 
"I am so excited for Avery to join our program," added Williamson. "She will instantly challenge our pins in the gym and add to our depth on the outside. She understands the game and plays with a lot of control which is essential in an outside position. Avery is one that can hit with power and move the ball around with control when needed. I know her drive with help her succeed at this level, and I am looking forward to working with her over the next few years!"


Alexis Moses| Middle Blocker | Fairfax, Iowa | Prairie HS
The 6-foot, 1-inch Moses was a four-year letterwinner at Cedar Rapids Prairie where she earned all-conference honors three times. She contributed 199 kills and 59 total blocks to a 22-win season for Prairie during her senior season. She appeared in 139 matches during her four-year career, totaling 708 kills and 199 total blocks.
 
She is a three-time state qualifier and Drake Relays qualifier in track, while she also participated in basketball for the Hawks. Played her club volleyball for the Iowa Rockets.
 
"Alexis is a player that is going to thrive in our gym," said Williamson. "Her work ethic is unmatched, and I know that she will add to our middle group that has been so deep in the past few years. Her athleticism is something that we were instantly drawn to, and her determination to be at her best will serve her well.  Alexis is a player that has also played multiple positions which will allow her to provide us options in multiple roles. I am looking forward to working with Alexis as she transitions into the college game!"
 
Madi Woodin| Setter | Omaha, Neb. | Elkhorn South HS
The 5-foot, 6-inch Woodin was a four-year starter on four state tournament teams that posted a 118-26 mark for the Storm, which included two trips to the state championship game. Helped the Storm reach the Class B state title game as a freshman, finishing with 1,220 assists and 266 digs. She set a single season state record as a sophomore with 1,414 assists while adding 311 digs on way to second-team all-state honors. Helped the Storm win the state title as a junior, leading the state in assists per set (13.1), while providing 1,104 assists and 256 digs on way to first team all-state honors. Elkhorn South advanced to the state semifinals during her senior season where she posted 1,138 assists and 337 digs. The school's single season and career assists record holder broke the all-class state record during her senior season and finished her career with 4,876 assists to go with 1,170 digs.
 
A member of the National Honor Society and Academic Honor Roll who played her club volleyball for Nebraska Juniors.
 
"Madi has had a tremendous high school and club career," Williamson said. "She has great hands and runs a very good offense, as shown by her records that she has set over the years. Madi is someone that will contribute on the court, but will also contribute within our culture. I cannot wait for Madi to be a Coyote!"
 
The trio will enroll and compete for South Dakota in the fall of 2022.
