The Game

South Dakota men's basketball takes on a receiving votes Drake team at 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon inside the Knapp Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

The game will be televised by Mediacom MC22 with commentary from Larry Morgan and Adam Emmenecker. That broadcast will also be available on espn+. Fans can also listen to the game on the Coyote Sports Network with John Thayer, carried on KVHT 106.3 FM in Yankton/Vermillion and KQSF 95.7 in Sioux Falls. The radio broadcast will also be available on The Varsity Network app.

The Coyotes

South Dakota's fourth season under alum Todd Lee began with a Veteran's Day win over the Air Force Academy inside the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls. The Coyotes return 10 letterwinners, including three starters, from last year's 14-11 squad that finished runner-up in the Summit League regular season. Returning starters include Xavier Fuller, Kruz Perrott-Hunt and Tasos Kamateros. Fuller averaged 8.9 points, Kamateros pitched in 8.4 and Perrott-Hunt added 7.0. Also back in the fold is redshirt-sophomore Hunter Goodrick who averaged 13 minutes off the bench as a freshman, but did not compete last year. Goodrick started and scored 12 points with a career-high eight boards in the season opener.

The Bulldogs

Drake is coming off a magical 26-5 season in which the Bulldogs defeated Wichita State 53-52 in the NCAA Tournament before falling to USC in the second round. The Bulldogs were picked as the Missouri Valley preseason favorites and are receiving votes in the preseason AP Top 25. Roman Penn was selected to the Valley's preseason first team and ShanQuan Hemphill was picked to the preseason second team. Sunday will be the Bulldogs' first Division I game of the season. Drake defeated Coe College 87-61 in their season opener on Tuesday.

The Series

Drake leads the all-time series 12-3. Since the Coyotes' became full-fledged Division I members in 2013, the series is split 2-2 with both of the Bulldogs victories coming last season. Drake took the first meeting in Manhattan, Kansas, 69-53 over Thanksgiving weekend and followed it up with a 75-57 win over the Coyotes inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center in December.

One Last Thing

Sunday is the Coyotes only road game in the first five games of the season. The Coyotes return to the Sanford Coyote Sports Center next weekend with three games in three games in five days – Southern (Nov. 19), Tennessee State (Nov. 21) and Presentation (Nov. 23) – leading up to Thanksgiving weekend.
